Barcelona re-ignite interest in Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera

According to SPORT, Barcelona will look to sign Ander Herrera this summer, if they fail to recruit other targets.

What’s the Story?

Adorning the front page of Spanish newspaper SPORT on Thursday morning is a picture of Ander Herrera alongside the words “Plan B Veratti”.

The story details how Barcelona, whose number one transfer target is Marco Veratti, will be willing to look at other options, should they fail to land the Italian. And that other option is Manchester United’s Ander Herrera, who is valued at £25.5million on transfermarkt.com.

New Barcelona boss is familiar with Herrera, having coached the midfielder during their time together at Athletic Bilbao. The new man at the Nou Camp would welcome a reunion with his former player, but SPORT are suggesting that the Spaniard would cost around £35.1million.

How good was Herrera last season?

Exceptional. Featuring 50 times for Manchester United last season, Herrera played a key role in ensuring the club claimed two major trophies and was recognised by the fans as their Player of the Season. His no nonsense, physical play combined with his classic Spanish elegance was sublime to watch at times and it wold be unwise to discount him as a future captain at Old Trafford should he stay.

Would Manchester United sell to Barcelona?

Highly unlikely. Unless the Catalan club pay an astronomical fee, Ander Herrera will not be going anywhere. The 27-year-old has established himself as a favourite at Old Trafford and his career progression in Manchester has been staggering. It seems that neither club or player would want a deal to go ahead this summer.
